MSN 202: Medical-Surgical Nursing II

This course is a continuation of the nursing care of medical/surgical clients utilizing a body systems approach for specific systems. It provides instruction integrating theoretical and clinical experiences with a variety of complex medical and surgical patients of all ages experiencing common physical and emotional conditions. This course provides practical application of the theory and skills acquired in the classroom and lab. Primary emphasis is placed on problem solving methods dictated by the individual's nursing needs and the patient's state of dependency. The student, as a member of the health care team, has the opportunity to participate in the health and well ness aspects of the patient's family. Integrated into the course will be the continued utilization of the nursing process and critical thinking skills to clients, of all ages, in all settings where nursing takes place. Emphasis on IV therapy and venipuncture education will be incorporated into the lab procedural skills. Nutrition and pharmacology are integrated with related theory. Leadership training skills focus on geriatric assessment and medication administration. Clinical experience provides administration of medications to adult clients.
